Our NS14 fleet contested the 62nd running of the NS14 NSW State Championships at Port Kembla Sailing Club (PKSC) over the weekend of 15–16 March 2025. PKSC was one of the friendliest and most welcoming clubs the PHOSC NS14 fleet has visited, and we had some very good success at the regatta.
There were 18 boats in the competition, with three boats from PHOSC: Phil Treloar & Genelle Aldred in "Sirocco X", Josh & Kai Faddy in "Snowflake", and Scott Roberts & Harry Thompson (from Speers Point ASC) in "Wild Cat".
The NS14 racing was extremely tight — it doesn't get much closer than this — with a three-way tie for 1st place and just one point back to 4th.
Congratulations to Brad and Taliah Clarke from TASC, sailing "Paddy Wack" — the newly crowned NS14 NSW State Champions for 2025, after trying to secure this prize for over 20 years.
Conditions were fair on Saturday; Sunday's were quite challenging, with a wind base around 15 kts gusting up to 30 kts, breaking gear and causing multiple capsizes throughout the event.
PHOSC crews did extremely well:
- Josh Faddy and daughter Kai in "Snowflake" won Division 1 (for Aero 9 boats and older).
- Phil Treloar & Genelle Aldred in "Sirocco X" won the Veterans prize.
- Scott Roberts & Harry Thompson in "Wild Cat" took 2nd place on handicap.
And at club level, PHOSC won the coveted Vic Hammond NS14 Champion Club State Pennant — well done team!
Thank you to Barracouta Sails for sponsoring a new boat cover for the Division 1 winner and supplying the event T-shirts. Other big sponsors were CST Composites and Marine Outlet.
And of course thanks and congratulations to Sharyn and Steve Jones (ns14.org) for organising the entire NS14 regatta, and to Steve Watts (President PKSC) and all the fantastic members at Port Kembla Sailing Club for allowing us to use their facilities and running a flawless event on and off the water.
