A fleet of dinghies racing on the Port Hacking River

Three Sunday mornings — 1, 8 and 15 November 2026, 10:00 am – 12:30 pm.

This course introduces you to sailing small dinghies: open boats with no cabin, 2.4–5 m (8–15 feet) in length. It includes both onshore theory lessons and on-the-water practical sailing instruction, covering:

  • basic sailing theory
  • basic knot tying
  • rigging, launching and retrieving the boat
  • helming (steering the boat)
  • reading the wind and trimming sails
  • tacking and gybing (turning the boat)
  • capsize recovery

Be aware that sailing can be very weather dependent. If conditions are unsuitable for sailing, we may have to make other arrangements.

Course fees are $340 for adults and $200 for youth. Fees include club membership for the 2026/27 season, so you can take part in club racing on Sunday afternoons.

To enrol, send us a message and we’ll be in touch with the details.
