"COMMODORE COL" RECEIVES AWARD

Our previous Commodore,  "Commodore Col" Tasker has been successful after being nominated for the Cook Community Award 2020 by the PHOSC committee.

The award ceremony was conducted at Wanda Surf Lifesaving Club on Saturday 12th December 2020.

Col's award was recognition for service to sailing in the Cook Electorate, and serving 15 years as Commodore at PHOSC, a record for our club!

The award was presented by the Federal Member for Cook and Prime Minister, Mr Scott Morrison.

COL TASKER NOMINATION BY PHOSC

Colin Tasker has been an instrumental part of the success of our volunteer club “Port Hacking Open Sailing Club” for well over 25 years, Col has been the clubs Commodore for the last 15 years and at 64 years of age has just relinquished the role to spend more time with his family, however he will still be a competitive sailing member with the club and wants to remain active on the committee as the clubs "Adult Sailing Co-ordinator".

As a competitor Col has shown exceptionally good sportsmanship and fairness on the water and in the committee room, his guidance and knowledge of all aspects to sailing is second to none within our club.  As Club Commodore, Col has guided the club through multiple sailing class changes, committee changes, rule changes and transitions, and his whole family and his life has been immersed into the club’s DNA over the decades of his involvement. Commodore Col's leadership, guidance, dedication and love of this small community-based grass roots sailing club, and his love of the sport of sailing has been invaluable to the growth and success of our senior and junior sailing programs. Col is a very likable and easy going fellow, and has actively engaged with all levels of membership of the club and is especially keen on encouraging our youth sailors to pursue this great sport.

He leaves the leadership position of Commodore, knowing he has an excellent committee in place to guide the club into the future. Col’s role of Commodore for the last 15 years is a record for PHOSC and a huge mile stone in our history since the club was formed in 1945 to help reconnect the local community following WW2, by getting people out of their homes to become involved in a small local sailing club with a focus on family participation.

Col has faithfully executed the intentions of our club’s founders to bring the community together and promote dinghy sailing as a sport that anyone can compete in, whilst encouraging the youth of today to “get outside” and have a go at this exciting outdoor sport.

Commodore Col is an icon of Port Hacking Open Sailing Club and a worthy nominee for the Cook Community Awards.
